Dr. Tholen is the Medical Director of Medspa Institute of America. With over 30 years of experience in providing the highest-quality, innovative cosmetic surgery available in the Minneapolis / St. Paul, Minnesota area and beyond, Dr. Richard H. Tholen has strived to develop Minneapolis Plastic Surgery, LTD. into one of the premier destinations for in-office, outpatient aesthetic plastic surgery in a nationally-accredited (AAAASF) on-site office surgical facility. Thousands of patients seeking not only skill and experience but also artistry and caring personal touch in their plastic surgeon have placed their trust and well-being in the skilled hands of Dr. Richard H. Tholen.
While Dr. Tholen’s education, experience, teaching, writing, presentations, and awards attest to his plastic surgical qualifications, the satisfied patients for whom he’s operated serve as the true testament to his reputation, expertise, and dedication as an American Board of Plastic Surgery-certified plastic surgeon whose practice has been devoted to aesthetic plastic surgery excellence for the majority of his 3-decade career. Carly Williams is the President of Medspa Institute of America. She is a board Certified Esthetics Instructor, Medical Laser Safety officer, Phlebotomist, and part of Associated Skincare Professionals. Carly’s school was the first laser school to come to MN in 2015 previously known as Limitless Laser Certification. Still, with the popular Luxury Laser Education Program, the school has grown with many other licenses over the years adding the umbrella name Medspa Institute of America. Carly is known for creating the laser licensure in the state of MN with the Office of Higher Education. Carly is a national esthetic speaker to beauty schools across the country. She held the highest sales at American Laser Skincare Centers and holds many certifications in laser safety officer and HIPAA Security, CPR, and OSHA Medical Hazards. She has previous experience working in Medspas and surgery offices before expanding her laser school. She has been in the field since 2010 and loves sharing her network with staff and students! Carly is a huge reason the Medspa industry has grown so much in the Midwest and is well known for helping others!

We do this by providing the most up-to-date technologies and treatments. We are committed to our student’s success by offering them the tools and network they need to become top in their field and through continuing support in their careers.
Learn From Experienced Instructors
Even though our company is widely known, we are a small, family-owned company. Our teachers have heaps of actual skincare experience from their careers such as dermatology offices, plastic surgeon clinics, spas and medspas. Also, most of our teachers have owned their own salon at one point or still do!
Having a doctor owner, and one that is so involved, gives the school and students more opportunities to learn from experienced professionals who know what works and what doesn’t! We look forward to getting to know you and helping you change your life!

Choose an Esthetics Only School
The beauty of being at a school that does not offer Cosmetology or nails is that there is 100% attention to the skincare programs and less people in the building. There is not a hair teacher teaching skin, and combining all of our different programs, the most people we would ever have in the entire school is 40. This makes it easier for our teachers to have relationships with the students and assure nobody is left behind.

Esthetics
Get a basic foundation of key services licensed estheticians must know, including facials, makeup, and waxing. This is a good starting point if you’re interested in a career in skincare.
Advanced practice esthetics
Dive deeper into clinical skincare after completing a basic esthetics program, where you can learn more clinical techniques, including microneedling, dermaplaning, and more.
Laser Certification
If you’re already a licensed esthetician and skincare professional, add additional specialized services to your resume through our unique laser certification program.
Microblading
This course can help you create gorgeous brows through specialized techniques. Advance your skincare education through Minnesota’s only licensed course in the state!
Cosmetic injection training
Learn how to do more clinical services such as injections and fillers. While this course is only available to RNs, it’s a great opportunity to get your foot in the door of skincare.
